Skyside Story
In 2007, photographer John A Ferrante, began the story of Skyside Photo several hundred feet above the ground. Long before drones became a photographic tool, capturing aerial imagery required something far less convenient and far more adventurous: a helicopter, a steady hand and stomach, and a photographer who understood how to read a landscape map from above.
John climbed into those helicopters with a camera and fascination with the unique perspective they provided. From the air, roads became patterns, buildings displayed their geometry, and entire properties could be seen in a single frame.
Those early flights shaped the foundation of Skyside. The work was precise and technical, but also artistic.
As technology evolved, so did the tools. The arrival of commercial drone systems changed aerial photography forever. What once required expensive aircraft and complicated logistics could now be accomplished with greater flexibility, accuracy and safety. John recognized the clear benefits and gradually transitioned Skyside Photo from helicopter-based imaging to advanced drone operations becoming a licensed drone pilot in the year 2000.
This transition opened the door to entirely new capabilities. John expanded into commercial imaging and detailed documentation and mapping for construction and development projects.
Today, Skyside Photo combines the perspective of those early helicopter flights with the precision of modern drone technology. The company provides high resolution aerial imaging, mapping, and progress documentation designed for industries that need clear, reliable visual data. Builders, developers, and property owners rely on Skyside Photo to show not just what a site looks like, but how it evolves over time.
What began as one photographer leaning out of a helicopter with a camera has become a specialized service built on experience, craftmanship, and a deep respect for the power of perspective.
